To a Tee
Happy 2014; hope you enjoyed your holiday season! But now it's back to reality (work) and getting on track with my blogging. The first few posts of the new year will be a recap of my holiday outfits. So let's start off with what I wore on Christmas day, as I traveled (a mere 35 minutes of driving) to visit my immediate and extended family. I come from a very large Asian family, which means that family gatherings are a bit chaotic but one thing is for sure. There is always an abundance of food to be had. Much like Thanksgiving, I wanted to wear stretch everything. But given that it was Christmas, I wanted to class it up a bit. Next best thing over leggings? A cotton tee dress! The Peter Pan collar adds a nice feminine touch to what is essentially an over-sized t-shirt. I love that the dress is not fitted, giving me some wiggle room for the impending growing food baby. And one can never go wrong with pearls, which accented the collar quite well. It was too cold to go bare legs, so tights were a necessity. It added a nice pop of color once I ditched my coat. Unfortunately, the short sleeves weren't ideal for the cold weather, but my massive plaid scarf played the role of shawl and kept me cozy while indoors. However, once the warmer weather rolls around, I can nix the tights and scarf for a lighter look. This dress is definitely something I can wear all year round.
One final note. My fiance wasn't so sure about my footwear choice. He actually asked, 'are you sure those shoes go?' I think it's totally OK to wear open toed shoes with tights in colder months. What do you think: yay or nay?
Outfit Details:
Collared Cotton Tee Dress: Loft, $69.88 (sale). This was another great holiday gift I received. Due to popularity, it is sold out online. Definitely check in with your local Loft to see if they still carry this dress in-store. If you don't have any luck there, a close second is from Target: Merona Peter Pan Collar Dress (grey heather), $24.48.
Sunglasses: Oliver Peoples (braverman 55), $125 (retail $420). During a trip to NYC late last year, I stopped by a sample sale at the Oliver Peoples store on E.68th and Madison. As an alternative at a much lower price point, I recommend the Greenwich in revolver black from my favorite sunglasses company, Warby Parker, $95.
Vintage Pearl Strands with Gold Clasp: NY Street Market, $10. This is one of my best finds yet! To get the same look, these may do the trick: (1) Bauble Bar: Duchess Pearl Strand (worn layered), $36 and (2) Etsy: Pearl and Rhinestone Brooch Necklace, $33.
Clutch: GiGi New York (Emerald Uber Clutch - Embossed Python), $Gift. My fiance gave this to me for my birthday (October)! The clutch retails at $130 and $15 for personalization. Sign up for their newsletter and save 10% off your first purchase!
