Strike a Cord
It's been a long time since I have put on a pair of cords. I think my aversion to corduroy pants dates back to my elementary school days. Not having my own finances back then, I was at the mercy of whatever it was my mother decided to put me in. I remember owing cords in every girly color possible (light pink, magenta, lilac, baby blue, just to name a few). They were always paired with an equally girly sweater, think hearts and rainbows. So now you might understand why the last time I wore corduroy pants was back in 1992.
As I was browsing Rue La La one day, I came across these pants and the print definitely spoke to me. I loved the different shades of purple swirling together on this one item. Not only was the print on point, the price really sweetened the deal. BUT as I read the details, I second guessed myself when I realized it was not denim but corduroy. I consulted a few ladies in the office and it was decided that I needed to make the purchase. Sure glad I did! Paired it with an oversized T which made for a perfect comfy Saturday uniform as I ran errands during the day followed by a dinner date with my fiance at night.I think I am now cured of the corduroy curse.
Outfit Details:
T: Gap (market T), $4.80. This was super marked down and I took advantage of an additional discount to nab it at such a low price. For a very similar T (as the market T is no longer available), try the Fluid Pocket T, $19.99. Now thru 9/24 use code THANKYOU and save an additional 35% ($ 12.99).
Corduroy Pants: Hudson (midrise Nico, super skinny) from Rue La La, $27.90. I did see these exact pants on a relatively recent trip to the Marshalls at Southbay. So you might still be able to get your hands on a pair. If not, here are a few alternatives: (1) Free People Murano Cord Skinny $78-available in two color combos; (2) FP Printed Cord Skinny, $78- includes plaid and floral prints and (3) BDG Acid-Wash Cigarette Cords, $59.
Loafers: Melissa from Lane Crawford in Hong Kong; $90. Browse Lord & Taylor's selection of smoking slippers and save 20% off with code SALE thru 9/30.
Aviators: Prada Outlet, $129. Piperlime has a selection of aviators for $100 or less. Use code THANKYOU at checkout thru 9/24 and save an extra 20% sitewide. For a few more styles at a lower price point, browse Lord & Taylor's selection.
Top Handle Crossbody: 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target $34.99. This was one of the few pieces that was on my wish list. Managed to nab one by ordering online at 4AM! Some would call that dedication, right? Unfortunately, this is sold out in-stores and online. If you are in the market for a top handle bag, here are a few for your consideration: (1) Estela Python Top Handle from Piperlime, $78. Use code THANKYOU at checkout thru 9/24 and save 20% ($62.40); (2) Forever21 City Chic Colorblocked Crossbody, $21.80 and (3) Forever21 Professional Envelope Satchel, $27.80.
Rings: The two rope bands I wore are part of a trio of gold stackable rings by gorjana-griffin from Rue La La, $29.90. I recommend taking a look at the yellow gold 18K plated braid ring by tawnieandbrina on etsy, $18 each. The 'R' initial ring is from Lou Lou, $10. One recently opened in Boston on Newbury Streets; definitely worth a visit!
Bracelets: 1) Metallic silver band with gold hardware, The Fashion Truck, $28. There are limited items online available for sale. For only a dollar more, the silver trio wrap is available at Jewel Be Mine; 2) Rose gold open triad cuff, Bauble Bar, $38 (note: only the gold is available).
