Stars & Stripes
Returning to reality this past week has been rough, facing full workdays and cold, single digit weather. Let me put this in perspective. The week prior I spent 9 days in sunny southern California with not a care in the world. The weather during this vacation ranged from 60-70 degrees and sunny with clear blue skies, minus one rainy day in LA. As warm as it was during the daytime, the temps dropped pretty quickly in the evening. This meant that my suitcase was packed with lots of light layers and my trusty faux-leather jacket. In an effort to think warm thoughts with this impending snow storm coming our (Boston) way, I'll be reliving my trip over the next few posts. My stay in Santa Barbara was the most restful leg of my trip. Plenty of sleep and outdoor running with some hiking does a body good. I felt quite rejuvenated! On this particular day, we took a lovely drive to the countryside of Santa Barbara. We were surrounded by beautiful mountains and even had a chance to pick some oranges and avocados from an orchard (fresh squeezed orange juice the next AM!). We ended the night with some delish Mexican food for dinner before heading to bed at 9PM (yay!).
A quick mention of what I wore on this beautiful day. The makeup of this outfit is pretty simple: a lightweight graphic sweater with jeans and flats. Nothing major, just going for comfort without wearing my usual leggings. With the stars and stripes, I felt like my own version of the American flag! When traveling, I always bring this crossbody because it's easy to carry and keeps me hands-free. My accessories were really minimal since it was so hard to pick and choose when I was packing. Simplicity was definitely key during this trip!
Outfit Details:
Mirrored Aviators: Ray-Ban from Piperlime, $93. These retail on Piperlime for $160, took advantage of a promotion and saved 20%. I then applied my rewards I earned from my BR card. If you are looking for something at a lower price point, you may like the two-toned Aviator Sunglasses from Urban Outfitters, $14.
Star Sweater: Kohl's: LC Lauren Conrad, $37.80 ($reg. 54). I've never shopped at Kohl's before but for Christmas I received a gift card. So, I took a stroll into Kohl's and found this great sweater, which was on-sale. It's no longer available online, but here is a similar sweater in the same line: Star Lurex Sweater, $32.40.
Jeans: Marshalls: Paige, $15 (clearance). I couldn't believe my eyes when I found this premium brand jeans on the clearance rack. Best buy that day! Check your local Marshalls. In the meantime, take a look at these: (1) Gap (1969 always skinny jean-medium wash), $48.96. Use code TREAT at checkout online and save 20% thru 2/17, (2) Old Navy(Rockstar Mid-Rise Super Skinny Jean-golden) spike, $34.94. Shop in-store and save 30% thru 2/17; and (3) Piperlime: Hive & Honey, $69.
Espadrille Flats: Tory Burch, $92 (Purchased during the Bloomingdale's Friends & Family event last year and saved 20%). Check out Soludos and their selection of striped espadrille flats. I own a few pairs and they are very comfortable (and more affordable!).
Crossbody: Tory Burch, under $500. This was a splurge gift to myself a few years ago. Purchased it during a TB Friends & Family event so it was on sale, of course! Interested in a crossbody but at a lower price point? You might want to peek at these: (1) Piperlime: Danielle Nicole Alexa Mini Crossbody, $78 and (2) Piperlime: Tinley Road Sydney Mini Satchel, $78.
Bracelets: (1) Alex & Ani: Medina Wrap, $48. I found this bracelet at Bloomingdale's and picked it up during a Friends & Family event last year to save 20% and (2) Alex & Ani (similar): Flame Rock & Raw, $68. I was lucky enough to have received this present at Christmas.
Rings: The usual gold bands (gifts from my parents). The only newly added rings are the crown midi rings I picked up at Pretty Reckless, a local South Boston boutique, for $8 (set of 2)! For something similar, I'm loving the midi rings from Bauble Bar.
