Tinsel
Growing up, one of my favorite holiday activities was decorating our (fake) family Christmas tree. God bless my parents for giving my younger brother and I full creative reign. The tree was covered in many ornaments, including ones we made, strung with multi-colored flashing lights, and my own personal fave, gold tinsel. Sadly, this tradition has come to an end, since my parents sold our childhood home last month. My 725 sq foot condo isn't quite conducive to a tree. A mini wire ornament tree is the current stand -in until we can move on up into bigger living space. What are your favorite holiday traditions? Since I don't have a tree to wrap tinsel around, why not wear it! A few weekends ago, as part of the American Express Shop Small Saturday, I popped into Ku De Ta, Southie. I spotted this sweater, complete with the allover plaid print knitted from gold tinsel yarn. I am such a sucker for plaid. At 20% off, it was mine. Following this purchase was a holiday party at our friends' home. This knit was perfect for the occasion. Festive enough, courtesy of the tinsel, without going overboard. The best part of this get-up? The loose fit of the sweater covered the food baby that developed as the night went on, mainly from the many cake pops I consumed. Calories don't count over the holidays, right?!
With all the hoopla around the holidays, don't forget to stop and smell the roses (or pine!). Happy holidays to you and your family!!
