It's Geometric

Oliver Peoples_Peter Pilotto for Target_Club Monaco_Tahari_coverLast weekend, I headed to the Big Apple for the NYC half-marathon. Since the race wasn't until Sunday, my fiance and I decided to make a weekend of it and visit our friends. This was the first time where my blogging and personal lives collided. As I had hoped, everyone (blogging and non-blogging friends) got along smashingly well! It was great conversation all around over great food. We left each meal with promises of future visits to Boston! My fiance and childhood friend, Meaghan, met up with Sam, the wonderful blogger behind La Petite Pear, and her husband Rob for brunch at The Smith in mid-town. This is a MUST if you are ever in the area. Sam and I met almost a year ago when I started Trendy on a Budget. During that blogger date over fro-yo, we quickly learned how much we had in common: fashion, Boston sports teams, bargain hunting and fro-yo, just to name a few. Being the bloggers that we are, following brunch, we had a quick photo shoot by some beautiful brownstones on the UES. I even had a chance to meet Sam's new puppy, Bones (photo below). If you haven't already, skip on over to Sam's blog for her take on fashion. While you are there, find out how you can be featured in her Fashionistas in Flats series!

That Saturday, I donned yet another piece from the Peter Pilotto for Target collaboration. Even with temps in the 5o's, it wasn't quite warm enough to wear a sleeveless top. I had a Tim Gunn 'make it work' moment and slipped the tank over a solid long sleeve, creating the illusion of a one piece top. Slapped on a pair of black skinnies and my go to boots and I was brunch-ready.

When the evening rolled around, it was carbo-loading time for me (and my friends). We dined at Felice, another must visit spot. This time, we met up with my girl Geleen, the chic blogger behind Geleen Michaela, and her boyfriend Jordan. Geleen is on a bit of a blogging hiatus and I hope she gets back at it soon. She has a pretty cool Instagram account (@geleenmichaela), so track her there!

This half-marathon was an incredible race. It was surreal running through Times Square with no cars or tourists, just runners. I felt like Tom Cruise in Vanilla Sky. The weather was a tad bit cold but I was thankful it was not raining or snowing. I was happy with my finishing time: 2:06:09. If you are ever looking for a half to run, I highly recommend that you get your name in the lottery next year! Or if you are simply looking for a running buddy, give me a holler!

Outfit Details:

Sunglasses: Oliver Peoples (braverman 55), $125 (retail $420). During a trip to NYC late last year, I stopped by a sample sale at the Oliver Peoples store on E.68th and Madison. As an alternative at a much lower price point, I recommend the Greenwich in revolver black from my favorite sunglasses company, Warby Parker, $95.

Tank Geometric Print: Peter Pilotto for Target, $17.48.

Long Sleeve T: Gap (favorite), $10 (sale thru 3/23).

Gold Aztec Triad Collar: Bauble Bar, $42. This style is no longer available but the Crystal Blunting Strand is very similar, $34.

Gold Bangles: Alex and Ani, price range starts at $24.

Black Skinny Jeans: Club Monaco, $49.50.  I purchased these on sale two winters ago and they have definitely held up. For something similar, I recommend Gap's 1969 legging jeans, $69.95. I own them in other colors and they are super comfy.

Crossbody: Tory Burch, under $500. This was a splurge gift to myself a few years ago. Purchased it during a TB Friends & Family event so it was on sale, of course! Interested in a crossbody but at a lower price point? You might want to peek at these: (1) Piperlime: Danielle Nicole Alexa Mini Crossbody, $78 and (2) Piperlime: Tinley Road Sydney Mini Satchel, $78. If you are interested in a Tory Burch, check out the Dena Tote, on sale at $275.

Riding Boots: Tahari (brady) from Marshall's, $99. The closest in-season pair I found are from Macy's, also by Tahari: Karen Tall Riding Boots, $97.49. Don't forget to use your Macy's coupons for additional savings.
