Denim on Denim on Denim
Last Saturday, Old Navy had a one-day in-store sale on their Rockstar line of jeans. On that day, many fashionistas took to Instagram and twitter professing their love for them. I took the endorsement with a grain of salt, as some of these individuals most likely had some sort of relationship withe the brand. So I did what any curious girl would do, I headed to the nearest Old Navy with my mom in tow to give them a try. I was pleasantly surprised at how well they fit and at $15 bucks a pop, it was a total win-win situation. I walked away with one pair and my mom, a few. Adding to my ever-growing denim wardrobe with my new skinnies, it would only be a matter of time until everything I pulled from my closet is denim. The very next morning, I threw on my polka dot chambray with the intention of pulling on a pair of leggings. But with any new purchase, I really wanted to wear my new skinnies. Just as I was about to swap out my chambray for a solid sweater, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. Could it be that I am in, for the first time, a Canadian tuxedo? I guess there is a first time for everything! I also had another new item I had been itching to break out, so I grabbed that too: my cheetah denim clutch. Did I take it too far? Can one really OD on denim?
Outfit Details:
Over-sized Sweater: Express, $unknown. I do recall pulling this from the sale rack but this was also a few years ago. Here are a few of my favorite alternatives: (1) Piperlime: Tinley Road Vegan Leather Sleeve Cardi in cream, $89; (2) Piperlime: THML Clothing Textured Wrap Sweater in champagne, $98; and (3) Urban Outfittters: Coincidence & Chance Waffle-Knit Cardigan, $69.
Polka Dot Chambray: Joe's Jeans from Marshall's, $29 (on clearance!). A great option of this variety is the J.Crew Keeper Chambray Shirt in Star Dot, on sale at $39.99. Use code GIFTNOW and save an additional 30% off!
Skinny Jeans: Old Navy (Rockstar Super Skinny Jeans in glacier), $15. They are currently on sale at $17!
Denim Cheetah Clutch: Rebecca Minkoff (M.A.C clutch) from Saks Off the 5th, $85. This was quite a steal! I found it hidden in a pile of other designer bags. On top of the markdown, the store was doling out 40% and I used my AAA card for an additional discount. I had to bring it home wit?h me. I did a search for this bag and it is sold out on sites, such as Bluefly and Nordstrom. A few crossbodies for your consideration: (1) asos: leather clutch bag with gaux pony giraffe print, $63.52; (2) Nordstrom: Emperia Leopard Flap Envelope Clutch, $38; and (3) Nordstrom: LP Blue Alexis Leopard Print Clutch, $25.46.
Mirrored Aviators: Ray-Ban from Piperlime, $93. These retail on Piperlime for $160, took advantage of a promotion and saved 20%. I then applied my rewards I earned from my BR card. If you are looking for something at a lower price point, you may like the Aviator Sunglasses w/ Blue Mirrored Lens from Asos, $14.52.
Horse Necklace: Gift. Although not an exact match, Forever21 does carry a delicate version of a horse necklace in gold/burnished gold for only $2.80!
Rings: (1) Open pyramid ring by gorjana-griffin (Rue La La, $29.90), an alternative is the Forever21 Faceted Pyramid Cocktail Ring, $3.80; (2) Knot Midi Ring: The Fashion Truck on Main, $6. If you don't get a chance to visit the store or truck, this UO Teardrop Infinity Midi Ring is pretty similar, $8; and (3) Gold band was a gift from my dad. I love Bauble Bar's gold classic cigar band as an alternative, $36
Suede Flats: Anthropologie, $35-ish. I bought these a few years back and they have held up well! I found them, in the backroom in a sale bin. Only at that point was it a reasonable price. Here are some cute and updated navy flats: (1) ModCloth: Meeting Minutes Flats, $32.99; (2) Nordstrom: Nine West Blustery Flat, $44.22; and (3) DSW: Mia Abie Flat, $49.95.
