Trendy On A Budget

Looking good shouldn't cost that much!

You Again, Plaid?

aqua_uniqlo_charles by charles david_1In a previous post, I proclaimed my love for plaid. So it’s not surprising that on a recent run to Bloomie’s, for Friends & Family of course, I brought this top home with me. The mix of blues and browns with the tie dye effect gives the classic print a modern twist. The sheer flowy fabric and roll-up sleeves transforms a traditional button-down into something with ease, giving the piece a more laid back feel. I debuted this top for a family dinner to celebrate both my fiance’s and my birthday. The best thing about a loose-fitting top? It covers up an ‘I ate too much’ belly and nobody will notice when it comes time to unbutton my jeans (you know what I am talking about).

I paired my top with a pair of black skinny jeans and my cognac booties. It wasn’t until recently that I was reminded that I had made this purchase. An IG follower commented on a pic and I panicked a bit, not remembering where I had put them! I think I need to seriously inventory what I own. Do you know how many pairs of shoes you own? I have never counted as I am afraid to find out what that number is……

Outfit Details:

Tie Dye Plaid Button Front: Aqua (my fave brand) from Bloomies, $62 (regularly priced at $78). Saved 20% during F&F!

Black Skinny Jeans: Uniqlo, $ (cant remember). I bought these when I was in Paris about 2 years ago, so I could have possibly overpaid. The Euro to USD conversion wasn’t that great then and it isn’t any better now. Uniqlo carries skinny fit tapered jeans that are more or less what I work ($39.90).

Booties: Charles by Charles David from Rue La La, $29.90. Total score. A few alternatives: (1) Piperlime: Rockport Presia Zip, $84.99; (2) Macy’s: Madden Girl Boots-Jaceyy Platform Booties in Cognac, $59; and (3) Nine West: Mainstay, $129. Take advantage of the Buy One, Get One 50% promotion.

Faux Leather Jacket: 5 l 48 from Saks off the 5th, $35. Piperlime  has a great selection of faux leather jackets for under $100.

Top Handle Crossbody: 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target $34.99. This was one of the few pieces that was on my wish list. Managed to nab one by ordering online at 4AM! Some would call that dedication, right? Unfortunately, this is sold out in-stores and online. If you are in the market for a top handle bag, here are a few for your consideration: (1) Estela Python Top Handle from Piperlime, $78; (2) Forever21 City Chic Colorblocked Crossbody, $21.80 and (3) Forever21 Professional Envelope Satchel, $27.80.

Necklace: Cross Necklace: gorjana – griffin from Rue La La, $29.90. gorjana-griffin does make frequent appearances on Rue La La, so keep an eye out for that boutique. For something a little different, check out this sideways cross pendant from Nordstrom, $16.

Bracelets: Alex and Ani. Price ranges and starts at $24.

Rings: (1) Mini Bow Ring: Madewell, $15; (2) Gold band was given to me by my dad.  For something similar, I like the gold classic cigar band from Bauble Bar, $36; and (3) Open pyramid ring by gorjana-griffin (Rue La La, $29.90), an alternative is from Piperlime; a solid pyramid ring by Hive and Honey which is now marked down to $9.97.
