Staying In Neutral

RocksBox_Gap_Banana Republic_Nicole Miller_coverSo when I finally got around to legally changing my last name, I debated on whether or not to change it at work. I thought it would be easier to continue being a Nguyen in my professional life. I went ahead and submitted a request to change my name on payroll and any other legally required documents. I must have skipped a step / clicked the wrong button because a few days later, I got a handful of emails that started off with ‘Who is Linda Rubin?’. It was only then did I realize the error I made. That was it. I came to terms with being Linda Rubin in real life and at work. For those name changers out there, how long did it take for you to get used to it? It still feels a bit strange to me!

Ending the year with all the hoopla around changing my last name, rather than call any more attention to myself, I decided to kick off my first official work week of 2015 in neutrals. My outfit was feeling a bit office-y (so not a word) and possibly a bit boring. Nothing a statement sparkler, snake print bronze pumps and a little yorkie couldn’t rectify! Lesson of this post? Keep a few statement makers on hand to pump up the volume. A small dog never hurts but too bad there are work policies against that.

I think a lot of people assume that neutrals are boring, but they are totally wrong! Love this look.

I remember changing my name…the most surprising thing was how many places I had to change it, especially with an online presence. It’s hard to get used to for sure, but it gets easier. That said, three years later and sometimes I still still think of myself with my maiden name.

Hi Bentley! Can’t wait to meet you so soon!! xo

Thanks Sam. Yes, I am starting to realize how many things/places my name is attached to!!! It’s so crazy. Bentley LOVES when we have guests.
