Trendy On A Budget

Looking good shouldn't cost that much!

Simple Does It

Gap_Piperlime_BaubleBar_JamesJeans_BrianAtwood_coverLast weekend, my parents threw Dan and I our 3rd and last wedding party! It was a typical Vietnamese party: loud and a bit chaotic that included 170 guests (bigger than our actual wedding), a 7 course meal accompanied by free flowing Heineken. Oh, and a bit of karaoke too. I spared the guests and did NOT take to the microphone. Dan and I even donned some traditional Vietnamese outfits (he was such a great sport)! I must say, it ended up being a fun(ny) night. We were so happy for the opportunity to celebrate with the rest of my family who were unablee to make it to Puerto Rico, especially my other grandma who was not well enough to travel. Alas, all the wedding festivities have come to an end.

After our shindig, which entailed two outfit changes, a quiet and simple Sunday was in order. Jeans, tee and a sweatshirt were perfect for catching up on emails, banging out a blogpost and a running a few errands. Feeling like my outfit was lacking a little something, I grabbed the gorgeous Margaret Elizabeth ring from Rocksbox and one of my fave Bauble Bar statement makers. And how can one go wrong with gold slip-ons? You can’t! Had a pretty great Sunday, which took a bit of a turn when our beloved Pats lost. But let’s hope for a better outcome this Sunday!

In other news, I FINALLY got my butt over to the Social Security Administration office to start the process of changing my last name. Hello Rubin; adios Nguyen.

Outfit Ideas:

Open Front Sweatshirt Cardi: August Salt from Piperlime, old (final sale). Found a similar item at Nordstrom, $58.

Favorite Long-Sleeve Crew Tee: Gap, $12 (sale).

Necklace: Bauble Bar (mongol warrior pendant), old. I highly recommend creating an account to accumulate points, which are convertible to dollars. That’s how I nabbed this pretty piece. I’m loving this piece, adds a nice pop of pink ($20 sale)!

Margaret Elizabeth Ophelia Cocktail Ring: Rocksbox (membership, c/o). Interested in the membership? Then follow these few simple steps! 1. Take the style survey and tell your stylist what kind of jewelry you want to wear: http://curebit.com/x/n2fGHb; 2. Get 3 pieces of designer jewelry handpicked for you to wear! Keep your gems for as long as you want; 3. Swap out your Rocksbox set whenever you are ready for something new – or buy anything you love at 20% off; and 4. Use code beyourbrightest and your first month membership is $9! You can cancel at anytime!

Jeans: James Jeans (twiggy/silkstone touch legging) from Habit on the sale rack at $50 (originally $158 and still at this price on the James Jeans website). If you are ever in Southie, definitely stop Habit! You now I am a fan of Gap 1969 denim. So, I recommend the 1969 super stretch legging jeans, $79.95.

Smoking Slippers: B Atwood from TJ Maxx, $49 on clearance! This was a Christmas gift from my mom last year but I got her to spill the beans.

I love, love, love the idea of dressing up a cozy casual outfit with some shmancy flats or loafers– still comfy, but adds some serious snazz! You’re perfect.
