Trendy On A Budget

Looking good shouldn't cost that much!

Ruffles and Animal Print: Yes, Please!

macy's_tory burchI’m back on the dress wagon and to celebrate my return after my stint with pants last week, I decided to go with this bold dress. Although this dress might be considered a bit much for the work place (remember, I work in a pretty conservative industry) a good balancing act helps neutralize the lime green and purple animal print.

That is why I to chose to go the all solid black route: black cardigan, black sheer tights and black booties.  As for accessories, I adopted the less is more mantra: watch, gold studs and my stackable rings. I love the flattering details of this dress; the fabric tie cinches at the waist and the ruffles give the illusion of curves, which is great for the less endowed. Another plus to this dress is that it can go from day to night, perfect for after-work drinks or dinner with friends. I hope there is warm weather consistency in the near future so I can finally ditch the tights!

Outfit Details:

Dress: Matthew Williamson for Macy’s, under $50. I purchased this a few years back and I still love it! Designer collaborations with department stores make owning some designer duds affordable. Fiscally responsible way to shop! I found this amazing mixed print fit and flare dress (yellow, black, grey) on LastCall.com for $73.50. You will definitely stand out in this number!

Cardigan: Can’t remember exactly where this cropped cardigan came from, mostly likely a pick up from Marshall’s or TJ Maxx. The Limited carries a black bolero that will pair nicely with the dress from LastCall.com previously mentioned. It is on sale for $23.94.

Sheer Tights: The Limited, $10. Stock up with black tights (or other colors) for $5 from Target!

Booties: Tory Burch, $190. This was a Christmas present to myself last year. Although a bit of a splurge, I did wait until it went on sale. I saved over 50% off the original price. I found two pairs of black wedges on Bluefly that I am digging: 1) Madison Harding black suede pointed toe wedge ankle boots marked down to $126.59 from $$277 and 2) Madison Harding black snake embossed leather wedge booties for $147.99 marked down from $164. Use code CHIC30 for $30 off and free shipping (requires min. order of $150) through 5/16.
