I love my LBQD, but wouldn’t it also be great as a skirt? Sadly, I have no sewing skills to make that a reality. As I scanned my closet, feeling like I have nothing to wear (and this happens often), I had a light bulb moment: I can own a quilted skirt. Best part is, I don’t have to cut anything, shell out any mula or spend endless amounts of time searching for the perfect LBS (aka. little black skirt).
To make the transformation seamless, I disguised my dress with a cropped, well-fitted and fully zipped jacket that hits right at the hips. The short length of the jacket is key in creating the optical illusion that I am truly wearing a skirt. The geo diamond print, paneling and monochromatic color scheme of the jacket makes for the perfect piece to pair with the quilted texture of the ‘skirt’.
For as long as I was allowed to pick out my clothes, I NEVER paired navy with black. I think this was because when I was younger (circa 1990’s), one of my older, cooler cousins told me to never mix the two colors. I followed her fashion rule because she was in high school and everything she said was gospel. I mean, when she got feathered bangs, I begged my mom to feather my bangs (mom said no). But as I got older and started developing my own sense of style, I came to my senses and kicked all fashion ‘rules’ to the curb. Black and navy are a killer combo and it’s totally fine to wear white after labor day!
What fashion don’ts were instilled in you at an early age that you definitely don’t follow anymore? I’d love to know!
p.s. Topping a dress with a cropped sweater is also an option to going from LBD to LBS.
