Looking at this outfit, I am sure you can already tell that something is a bit off. Yes, I am in something other than an outfit that consists of a dress or skirt. Decided to put on my big girl pants. And second, I picked out of my closet a pair of pants with the widest legs, which is the complete opposite of the current trend of slimmer and skinnier pants. Even though I was going against the grain, I relied on my accessories to keep this outfit feminine, current and most importantly, office appropriate.
I chose a basic T to pair with my pinstripe pants and updated the neckline by adding a statement necklace with some shape. With wide legs and the long length, high heels were a necessity. The added height gave the pants a structured and clean look. Not to mention, it prevented the hem from dragging along the ground. Lastly, I felt the need to infuse a small dose of print to break up the monotony of the pinstripes and my plaid belt did the trick (look closer to see what is on the buckle).
So the next time you get dressed, break out of your signature look! You never know what looks you may create. Dress like a lady, feel like a boss!
T: Old Navy, $6.
Wide Leg Pant: BCBG, $50-ish. I purchased this a little while back at the BCBG store on super sale. Here are some options: (1) The Limited: Cassidy Printed Wide Leg Pants, $74.90 and (2) Banana Republic has a small selection of wide leg pants starting at $49.99.
Aviators: Prada Outlet, $129. Piperlime has a selection of aviators for $100 or less. For a few more styles at a lower price point, browse Lord & Taylor’s selection.
Gold Aztec Triad Collar: Bauble Bar, $42.
Bracelets: Alex and Ani, prices start at $24.
Rings: Trio of gold stackable rings by Gorjana-Griffin from Rue La La, $29.90. Bauble Bar carries twist ring trio in lilac, mint and tangelo at $28 a set (free shipping both ways). Each set contains one gold band. For something similar to my gold band, I like the gold classic cigar band also from Bauble Bar, $36. As for the open pyramid ring by gorjana-griffin (Rue La La, $29.90), an alternative is the Piperlime has a solid pyramid ring by Hive and Honey which is now marked down to $15.99.
Belt: J.Crew, $15-ish (a few years old!). I had a really hard time finding any plaid belts! The point of the belt was to add some print, not necessarily the plaid print. With that said, I am so in love with this Kate Spade reversible printed (floral) trouser belt, $49. Adds a small does of print with a pop of color!
D’Orsay Pumps: Macy’s, price unknown. I have owned these pumps forever! I think the money I have put into repairing these have surpassed whatever amount I paid. But goes to show the simple silhouette of a d’orsay makes it a mainstay in any wardrobe. Here are some selections for your perusal: (1) Piperlime, starting at $79 and (2) Lord & Taylor, starting at $79.
