I have a few pair of old jeans that have managed to survive several closet purges. With a rule of thumb to consign/donate/toss anything that has not been worn in the past 6 months, it’s a miracle these jeans survived the purges. I keep thinking, “I’ll wear them again, right?” Well, some of them haven’t see the light of day in over a year. Having some free time over the long weekend, I decided to give one lucky pair another chance.
I am no diy-er, so an easy-to-follow tutorial was key. I figured, why spend my hard earned cash on a pair of ripped shorts when I could destroy a pair myself? In my search on the world wide web, I came across this great blog: In Honor of Design. She has a whole DIY section, including a tutorial on Distressed Denim Cutoff Shorts. Only three tools are needed: chalk (a white crayon worked for me), exacto knife and tweezers. One tip: decide on the length of the shorts and add an extra few inches to that. I found myself correcting my cuts, which meant I lost a little bit of length each time! I think I did OK for a first-timer. Defn gonna give this another go; wish me luck!
Are you a fan of distressed denim shorts?
