Trendy On A Budget

Looking good shouldn't cost that much!

Chunky & Comfy

express_old navy_rich&skinny_coach_phillip lim for target_2Last weekend, on the first official fall day, I decided to take a drive out of the city and pop in to say hello to my parents. Whenever I go home, I always have a long list of to-do’s. At the top of the list? Grocery shopping. I love that I can get double the amount of groceries for the same amount of money I would pay in Boston. Next on the list?  A much needed hair cut. My mom is my hair stylist and is the only person who has ever cut my hair. What I save in free haircuts goes straight into my shopping budget! Winning. On my way to see my grandmother, I made a pit stop at Target to return a few items from the Phillip Lim for Target line. It is true, some items had to go back (one shirt was a tad bit snug). Lastly, I managed to squeeze in a few loads of laundry at my parents house. I know, so college of me. But I hate the coin-op machines in my building. Who really ever has that many quarters? Once the last load was dry, I hopped right into my car and headed back to the city.

One of my favorite fall items is my chunky cream sweater that I can layer over almost anything. You’ll definitely see me wearing this a few times over this Fall/Winter season. Staying true to my basic weekend uniform, I threw on a T and skinny jeans. Now that it’s Fall, I love slipping on a pair of riding boots over my jeans. Everything about this outfit is oh so comfy. So my outfit equation went from T+Jeans+Flats = Weekend Outfit to T+Jeans+Layering Sweater+Riding Boots=Fall Weekend Outfit. What’s your forumula?

p.s. My dad took these pics for me! I kept on saying it was a project I was working on because he does not get the concept of a blog. Gotta love dads! Also, please excuse my unkempt hair. This was pre-haircut from mom.

Outfit Details:

Cream Chunky Sweater: Express, $unknown. I do recall pulling this from the sale rack but this was also a few years ago. Here are some similarly styled items: (1) Coincidence & Chance Waffle -Knit Cardigan, Urban Outfitters, $69  and (3) BDG Fisherman Cardigan, Urban Outfitters, $79.

T: Old Navy (vintage-style V-neck in medium gray), $9.50

Skinny Jeans: Rich & Skinny from Bloomingdale’s Outlet, $40. I have great luck at the Bloomie’s Outlet; it’s a great place to buy designer jeans without spending a fortune. Here are a few similar pairs to try: (1) Soho Super Skinny Jeans by Sold at Piperlime, $68.97; (2) Narrow Jean by Cheap Monday at Piperlime, $35.97; and (3) 1969 Always Skinny Jeans, Gap, $45.47.

Tortoise and Gold Link Necklace: Banana Republic, $Gift. A friend gave this to me as a Christmas gift three years or so ago. It’s definitely a classic. As an alternative, take a peek at the Eliza Tortoise Links necklace from Bauble Bar, $36 (remember, ti’s always free shipping both ways!).

Rings: (1) The ‘R’ initial ring is from Lou Lou, $10. One recently opened in Boston on Newbury Streets; definitely worth a visit! (2) Trio of gold stackable rings by gorjana-griffin from Rue La La, $29.90. I recommend taking a look at the rose gold 18K plated braid ring by tawnieandbrina on etsy, $18 each. Check back often for the gold version; and (3) Open pyramid ring by gorjana-griffin (Rue La La, $29.90), an alternative is the Piperlime solid pyramid ring by Hive and Honey which is now marked down to $9.97.

Top Handle Crossbody: 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target $34.99. This was one of the few pieces that was on my wish list. Managed to nab one by ordering online at 4AM! Some would call that dedication, right? Unfortunately, this is sold out in-stores and online. If you are in the market for a top handle bag, here are a few for your consideration: (1) Estela Python Top Handle from Piperlime, $78; (2) Forever21 City Chic Colorblocked Crossbody, $21.80 and (3) Forever21 Professional Envelope Satchel, $27.80.

Tan Riding Boots: Coach from Macy’s, $Gift. This was a Christmas gift from my mom 2 years ago. Knowing her, these were definitely on sale and she used a coupon of some sorts.  She is the bargain queen; I learned everything from her. Here are a few worth checking out: (1) Nine West Classic Leather Riding Boots from L&T, $169. Use code SALE thru 9/30 and save an additional 20% off ($135.20);  (2) Nine West Valcaria, $179; and (3) Steven (Intyce Tall Boots) from Macy’s, $149. Use code SUPER and save 15%.

Nail Polish: Essie, Wicked
