Trendy On A Budget

Looking good shouldn't cost that much!

Chambray at Play

MarcbyMarc Jacobs_Loft_GapYes, you are experiencing deja-vu. I have worn this chambray before. However, last time, this chambray played the role of supporting actress to a cute little lacey number. This time, I am letting it take center stage.

A chambray button down is definitely a closet staple; I’d put it up there with my basic tees. Talk about a versatile piece. Pair it with colored denim, printed shorts or leggings for an effortlessly chic weekend look. Need a dressier touch? Layer it with a shift dress or a pencil skirt and a pair of heels. If you don’t own a chambray top, have I convinced you that you NEED at least one (or two) in your closet?! And if you are already on the chambray wagon, what’s your favorite way to style one? Do share!

Outfit Details:

Sunglasses: MarcbyMarc Jacobs (MMJ 293/2) from Bloomingdale’s Outlet, $26.49! Although not as marked down, this exact pair is on sale at Solstice for $89.

Faded Chambray: Loft, $54.50 (paid $32.70). I happened to be in the store while there was a 40% off promotion. Loft is very generous with its promotions, so wait it out until the next sale! No need to pray full price.

Bag: Loeffler Randall Satchel from Bloomingdale’s, $495/paid $396. I purchased this during a recent Friends & Family event and was able to save 20%.

Bracelets: (1) Leather and Gold Studded Bangle: Banana Republic, $gift. A friend gave this to my for my birthday last October. Albeit not leather, for a similar look, I recommend the colored bangle from Ily Couture, $9 (sale); (2) ‘R’ Initial Bangle: Statement Boutique, $59. This was a gift from the mister. Getting myself used to my soon to be new initial; and (3) Gold Vermeil Bangle: I purchased this during a visit to Woodstock, VT a few years ago from a small jewelry shop that has unfortunately gone out of business. Also from Ily Couture, a similarly styled bracelet, the gold textured metal pave bracelet, $25.

Jean Leggings: Gap. Purchased a few season ago. The 1969 legging jeans are my absolute faves from Gap. From now thru 5/11, save 30% off your purchase with code MAYSTYLE. Have a store card? You get 40%! For other colors and print options, I am a huge fan of Old Navy’s Rockstar jeans.

Caged Wedges: Loft. These are from a few seasons ago and are still in great shape! Check out Loft’s selection of cute sandal wedges. A close second are these Steve Madden Venis Leather Strappy Wedge Sandals from Lord & Taylor, $69.99 (sale). Use code EXTRA to save an additional 20% thru 5/12.
